Stephen McGowan holds the unenviable record of being militant group Al Qaeda’s longest held prisoner.
The South African was kidnapped by Al Qaeda in 2011 in Africa’s from the Mali tourist town of Timbuktu and finally released in 2017.
But he did not lose hope, in fact Stephen feels be came out a better person “If they weren’t going to kill me, I should use this time to grow and go home a better person back to my family”.
